Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP) has commissioned two macro level studies related to energy efficiency. Both of these studies are commissioned under NEEP component – policy advice and are aimed at supporting Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS) in drafting Energy Efficiency Strategy as part of National Energy Strategy. The study “Determination of the correlation of energy consumption with macroeconomic and development indicators”is aimed at determining the current and projected future energy consumption of Nepal in relation to different economic growth and human development scenarios. The study will try to analyze the energy consumption pattern and developing future scenarios of energy demand in Nepal.
Similarly, the study “Identification of allocation efficiency of private and public spending in energy infrastructures for supply side versus demand side management/ energy efficiency” is aimed at identifying structural and procedural practices and barriers in public and private investment patterns in the energy sector that constrain the investment in DSM/EE. It is envisaged that output of the studies will provide input to the formulation of energy efficiency strategy of Nepal as a part of National Energy Strategy and support the Government of Nepal through WECS for policy formulation in achieving sustainable economic growth and improved living condition of the people.
